A warning about domain registrar email addresses
Yesterday we helped a client recover their domain after it expired, apparently without any prior notification emails from the registrar warning them of the impending need to extend their contract. Recovery was greatly complicated by the fact that they had used an email address from that domain in their administrative contact information. In other words, they had used something like john.doe@my-site.com as the email contact for the domain my-site.com. Don’t do this. Instead, use an email address on a different domain that you check frequently and that you are likely to never give up, such as a personal address as gmail, Yahoo, etc. If you don’t, you run the risk of getting into a vicious circle in which you have domain difficulties that disable the email that the domain registrar uses to contact you. Make sure you use an email address that you plan to keep for a very long time because if you don’t check it or it expires, you won’t be notified of issues related to your domain.
